IOWA CITY, Iowa - After a 5-0 semifinal win over Cornell, the Coe women's tennis teams' streak of three-straight Iowa Conference titles came to an end. Luther took advantage of a 3-0 lead after doubles to win the regular season championship.Coe took care of Cornell for the second time in just over a week. Megan Fiala (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) earned the Kohawks first win in doubles with an 8-1 decision over Samantha De Gannes and Amanda Johnson at number three doubles. Senior
Hillary Allen (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) and junior
Katy Delagardelle (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) were 8-1 victors over Kara Middleton and Alyssa Zavislak at number two doubles, increasing the Kohawk lead to 2-0. Senior
Andrea Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) teamed with her sister, freshman
Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) for an 8-4 decision over Caryl Abeyta and Kirsten Lasley at number one singles, as the Kohawks took a 3-0 lead into singles play.
A 7-5, 6-1 win at number six singles by freshman
Sara Ohlman (Washington, Ill./Washington) extended the Kohawk lead to 4-0 before Jensen sent the Kohawks to the finals with a 6-1, 6-0 win over De Gannes at number one singles.
The Kohawks dropped all three doubles matches to Luther, but
Michelle Schupbach was able to get the lone win for Coe at number four singles. She was a 6-1, 6-1 victor over Alana Humpal.
Coe will return to action next weekend at the IIAC singles and doubles championships. Matches will be played at Coe's Clark Racquet Center and Veteran's Memorial Tennis Courts in Cedar Rapids.
