CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College volleyball team will be participating in the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally this week.  The Kohawks will face Mount Mercy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Eby Fieldhouse, with both teams participating in the event.

Coe joins thousands of teams from around the country, including high school and college teams,to promote breast health education in the community, as well as raising funds to help eradicate breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the games. Both teams will do their part by wearing various pink items throughout the game.

Before the volleyball match, pink pails will be passed around the crowd. The proceeds from all donations will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. They have raised thousands of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research nationally through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies. Funds are currently devoted to targeted therapies and molecular profiling which is where there is a hot bed of research activity.

Since its inception in 2004, and including donations received thus far in 2009, the Side-Out Foundation will have provided over $700,000 to breast cancer research. With a goal of receiving $1,000,000 in 2010 alone and the on-going transition from a local to a national campaign we have set in place the policy and procedures to guarantee your donations are distributed to breast cancer research and support organizations that will have the most immediate and direct impact on the challenges of managing this disease.
