CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe women's tennis team pushed three players to the quarterfinal round in the Iowa Conference Championship Flight A Singles tournament, with two of those players also teaming to make the championship match in Flight A Doubles. All three Kohawks were seeded in the top eight that advanced.


Second-seeded Hannah Jensen (Iowa City, Iowa/West) was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Meghan WIlliams of Luther in the opening round before defeating Cami Czech of Luther 6-1, 6-4 in the second round. She will face seventh seeded Brynne Zinnecker of Luther Saturday morning. Jensen is the defending Iowa Conference Champion.

Senior Andrea Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus), the tournaments fourth seed, was a 6-1, 6-1 victor over Leanna Nelson of Wartburg in the first round. Schupbach then was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Sara Dale of Central in the second round, setting up a match with fifth-seeded Fran Fairfield of Luther in the quarterfinals.

Eighth-seeded Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) defeated Breann Billiet of Loras 6-1, 6-0 in the first round. She also was a 6-2, 6-1 victor over Katie Nichols of Luther in the second round. Michelle Schupbach will face top-seeded Kelsie Allen of Luther in the quarterfinals.

Sixth-seeded Hillary Allen (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins) earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over Alisha Espey of Loras in the first match of the tournament. Allen was defeated 6-1, 6-4 in the second round by Luther's Alana Humpal.

Senior Megan Fiala (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) and freshman Sara Ohlman (Washington, Ill./Washington) were both defeated in the first round. Fiala was defeated 6-0, 6-4 by Central's Faith Bliss, while Ohlman lost a 6-2, 6-2 match to fifth-seeded Fran Fairfield of Luther.

In Flight B Singles, junior Natalie Bordignon (Robins, Iowa/Xavier) defeated Christie Runde of Loras 8-2 in the first round before being defeated by fifth-seeded Alyssa Zavislak of Cornell in the second round.

In Doubles play, the top-seeded Schupbach sisters advanced to Saturday's championship match with two victories after a first round bye. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Abeyta and Lasley of Cornell 8-3 before defeating Bliss and Donner of Central 8-4. The sisters will face Lindstrom and Fairfield of Luther in the championship match.

Jensen and Fiala were 8-5 winners over Dale and Gibbons of Central before dropping an 8-3 decision to second seeded Zinnecker and Allen of Luther. Allen and Ohlman lost 8-3 to Lindstrom and Fairfield in the opening round.

Play will continue at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Clark Racquet Center on Coe's campus.
