PELLA, Iowa - Central won six matches Thursday night, including a pair by bonus points, as the 10th-ranked Dutch beat 12th-ranked Coe College 20-12 in the dual meet opener for both schools.
At 125 pounds, second-ranked Clarren Pestano beat eighth-ranked Jan Rosenberg (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) by 9-1 major decision. The Dutch added to their lead at 133 pounds, as Cameron Timok downed Fletcher Green (Washington, Iowa/Washington) 11-9. Coe cut into the lead at 141 pounds, as Trey Schuler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) beat Dan Radcliffe 10-7.
Central's second bonus point win came at 149 pounds, as Jordan Challen won by 18-7 major decision against Romello Hidalgo-Monjaras. At 157 pounds, Cole Erickson (Mediapolis, Iowa/Mediapolis) was awarded a takedown at the buzzer, but the call was reversed after review, leaving Jeremy Vester with a 3-2 victory. At 165 pounds, eighth-ranked Ryan Vandall beat Bryce Scott (Oak Park, Ill./River Forest) 7-4.
Coe won three of the final four matches, starting with Jake Voss (Ryan, Iowa/West Delaware) at 174 pounds. Voss beat Moss Zach 10-3. At 184 pounds, Taylor Mehmen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) scored the biggest win for the Kohawks, as he knocked off sixth-ranked Anthony McBroom 9-5. At 197 pounds, 10th-ranked Matt Seabold beat Andrew Holladay (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) 9-2. The Kohawks closed the night with a 5-3 win from Brennan Koerperich (Epworth, Iowa/Western Dubuque) at heavyweight against Jaime Miranda.
