FORT DODGE, Iowa - The Coe College swimming and diving teams split a dual meet Friday night with Iowa Central in the first of two-straight days with duals on the road for the Kohawks.
Coe opened the night with a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay. On the women's side, Coe's team of Kendall Bundy (Denver, Colo./South), Sam Fitzgerald (Springville, Iowa/Springville), Katie Freeland (Dysart, Iowa/Union) and Brandi Peter (Dubuque, Iowa/ Senior) finished in 1:55.77, the eighth-best time in school history. For the men, Doug Sauer, Tucker Dangremond (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy), Andy Cheng (Corpus Christi, Texas/W.B. Ray) and Tim Bosn (Omaha, Neb./Roncalli Catholic) finished in 1:44.36. Alanna Thompson (Waterloo, Iowa/ West) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:13.39, while Blake Sterns (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) won on the men's side in 10:35.39. Cheng was third for the Kohawk men in 11:15.58.
Katie King (Dysart, Iowa/Union) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.96, while Corbin Faidley (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/Hoover) was second for the men in 1:49.17. Katy Appler (Clermont, Iowa/Valley) was third in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.84, while Joshua Seymour (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic ) was third for the men in 23.97. Bundy was second in the 100-yard IM in 1:04.30, while Collin Flynn (Racine, Wis./Walden III) was third for the men in 58.42. Fitzgerald took third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.92, with Cheng coming in third for the men in 57.14. Appler was third in the women's 100-yard freestyle in 59.48, while Quincy Markham (Sioux City, Iowa/Bishop Heelan ) was third on the men's side in 52.01.
Bundy won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.63, while Eleanor Peach (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J Andrew) was third in 1:25.07. Flynn was third on the men's side in 56.76. King won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:37.09, while Faidley won the event on the men's side in 4:55.02. Bosn was third for the men in 5:35.60. Fitzgerald won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.09, while Freeland was third in 1:13.02, the eighth-best time in school history. Dangremond was second in the men's 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.23. The Kohawk women won the 800-yard freestyle relay, as Appler, King, Thompson and Peter touched in 8:40.58. On the men's side, Faidley, Sterns, Markham and Flynn finished second in 7:30.94.
The Kohawk women won the dual 120-108, while the men dropped a 137-77 decision to the Tritons. Coe returns to action on Saturday, as the Kohawks travel to Nebraska Wesleyan. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
