LINCOLN, Neb. - The Coe College swimming and diving teams closed the weekend with a dual split against Nebraska Wesleyan.
The Kohawk women opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay. Coe's team of Alanna Thompson (Waterloo, Iowa/ West), Sam Fitzgerald (Springville, Iowa/Springville), Kendall Bundy (Denver, Colo./South) and Katie Freeland (Dysart, Iowa/Union) touched in 4:15.58, the eighth-best time in school history. The Kohawks also finished third in the relay, as Rachel Rethwisch (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Doge), Natalie Wilkinson (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola ), Eleanor Peach (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J Andrew) and Sheleah Wilson finished in 5:05.71. On the men's side, Doug Sauer, Tucker Dangremond (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy), Andy Cheng (Corpus Christi, Texas/W.B. Ray) and Corbin Faidley (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/Hoover) were second in 3:47.46. Katie King (Dysart, Iowa/Union) won the women's 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:36.44. On the men's side, Faidley was first in 10:09.35, while Quincy Markham (Sioux City, Iowa/Bishop Heelan ) was second in 10:45.32.
Bundy won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06.04, while Collin Flynn (Racine, Wis./Walden III) was third on the men's side in 1:54.11. Thompson and Rethwisch went 1-2 in the 100-yard backstroke, with Thompson finishing in 1:06.57 and Rethwisch touching in 1:13.91. Sauer was third on the men's side in 59.40. Freeland won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.45, while Dangremond was third on the men's side in 1:02.93. King won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:31.42. On the men's side, Cheng was second in 2:13.72, while Conor Backhaus (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) was third in 2:21.26.
Katy Appler (Clermont, Iowa/Valley) was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.13. Brandi Peter (Dubuque, Iowa/ Senior) was third in the women's 100-yard freestyle in 59.36, while Flynn was third on the men's side in 51.35. Coe went 1-2-3 in the women's 200-yard backstroke, with Bundy winning in 2:16.10. Rethwisch was second in 2:39.01, while Peach was third in 3:01.17. Sauer won the 200-yard backstroke for the men in 2:09.23, while Cheng was third in 2:16.98. Fitzgerald and Freeland went 1-2 in the 200-yard breaststroke, with Fitzgerald winning in 2:21.84 and Freeland touching second in 2:39.36. Dangremond was third for the men in 2:21.44.
The Kohawks took the top two spots in the women's 500-yard freestyle, as Thompson won in 5:52.72 and Peter finished second in 5:57.64. Faidley won the men's race in 4:53.06, while Blake Sterns (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) was third in 5:12.99. King won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.17, while Peach was third in 1:16.53. Cheng was second on the men's side in 56.96. Coe went 1-2-3 in the women's 200-yard IM, with Bundy winning in 2:21.96. Fitzgerald was second in 2:23.63, while Freeland was third in 2:25.60. The Kohawk women won the 400-yard freestyle, as Appler, King, Peter and Thompson finished in 3:55.73. On the men's side, Faidley, Flynn, Tim Bosn (Omaha, Neb./Roncalli Catholic) and Markham were third in 3:25.45.
Coe won the women's meet 161-76, while the Prairie Wolves won on the men's side 166-90. The Kohawks return to action on Dec. 3, as they host the Coe Invite at the Coe Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
