STORM LAKE, Iowa - The 11th-ranked Buena Vista Beavers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the games first 1:57 and never looked back as they beat Coe 81-65 Saturday at Siebens Fieldhouse. Coe cut the lead to five with 12:26 to play in the opening period, but a 13-3 run by the Beavers put them back up 30-15.

Trailing by 18, the Kohawks jumped back in the game to end the first half, as they closed the final 3:31 on a 12-3 run, sparked by back-to-back 3-point baskets by senior Christian Parent (Littleton, Colo./Littleton).

Buena Vista put the game away in the first five minutes of the second half with a 17-7 run. Coe wasn't able to cut the lead to less than 15 until a 12-4 run to finish the last 2:21 of the game.

Junior Brett Petersen (Gibson City, Ill./Gibson City) led the Kohawks with 15 points off the bench. Sophomore Caleb Luckow (Webster City, Iowa/Webster City) also added 11 points off the bench on 3-for-3 shooting from downtown.

The Beavers owned the paint, as they outscored Coe 16-8 in the paint and 12-6 on second chance baskets. Although giving up 22 turnovers, the Kohawks were able to tally 24 points off 15 Beaver turnovers.

The Kohawks return to action on Saturday as they host Maryville (Mo.). Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.
