CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For the third-straight year, a Coe women's tennis doubles team has taken home the top prize in the Flight A Doubles Tournament. This time, it was the Schupbach sisters (
Andrea and Michelle) that went undefeated for the title. After winning quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Friday, the sisters defeated Lindstrom and Fairfield of Luther 8-3 in the championship match. Both players advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals of the Flight A singles tournament, but were defeated in tiebreakers. Michelle lost a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (7) decision to top-seeded Kelsie Allen of Luther. Allen went on to win the singles title. Andrea lost a 6-4, 6-7(3), 1-0 (2) decision to Fran Fairfield of Luther. Fairfield then lost a three-set match to Allen in the semifinals.
The Kohawks other quarterfinalist,
Hannah Jensen (Iowa City, Iowa/West) was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Luther's Brynne Zinnecker. She then defeated Wartburg's Molly Eslick 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the championship match against Allen. After winning the first set 6-0, Jensen lost the second set 1-0 before falling 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
