STORM LAKE, Iowa - Coe College, ranked 13th in the nation, won nine of 10 matches Wednesday night, as the Kohawks beat Buena Vista 42-3. Coe earned bonus points in six of the nine wins.
The Kohawks opened the night with a 13-8 win at 125 pounds, as Jan Rosenberg (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) beat Ernesto Garcia. At 133 pounds, Fletcher Green (Washington, Iowa/Washington) picked up a 17-0 technical fall in the second period against Riley Altenburg. Trey Schuler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) won by fall at 141 pounds, as he pinned Collin Stilson in 6:12.
At 149 pounds, Romello Hidalgo-Monjaras (Concord, Calif./College Park) beat Shane Vaughan 8-3 for his sixth-straight win. Second-ranked Ryan Harrington (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) picked up an 8-2 win over Andrew Nelson at 165 pounds. Jake Voss (Ryan, Iowa/West Delaware) won his 10th-straight match in convincing fashion, as he beat Kevin Pape by 16-0 technical fall :23 into the second period.
Taylor Mehmen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) earned his sixth-straight victory, as he beat Lavaris Preston by 17-0 technical fall in the first minute of the second period. At 197 pounds, Andrew Holladay (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) won his fifth-straight match, as he won by injury default in the second period against Daniel Jauregui. It was the 40th win of Holladay's career. Coe closed the match with a first period fall, as Brennan Koerperich (Epworth, Iowa/Western Dubuque) pinned Seth Gerhling in 2:59.
