ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - For the second time in the last week, the 13th-ranked Coe College wrestling team has beaten Augustana. The Kohawks beat the Vikings 33-10 Thursday at the Carver Center.
Coe opened the scoring in a big way, as Jan Rosenberg (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) earned an 18-2 technical fall in 5:00 against Trenton Jackson at 125 pounds. Rosenberg improved to 14-6 with the win. Fletcher Green (Washington, Iowa/Washington) followed that with a 9-0 major decision against Freddy Terranova at 133 pounds. At 141 pounds, Levi Azinger (Pella, Iowa/Pella) earned a major decision in a 16-2 win over Brendan Gould. Romello Hidalgo-Monjaras (Concord, Calif./College Park) was a 5-2 winner over Matt Sears at 149 pounds. Cody Fritz (Solon, Iowa/Solon) posted 26 points at 157 pounds, as he won by 26-11 technical fall over Josh Bush.
The Vikings cut the lead to 21-3 before Jake Voss (Ryan, Iowa/West Delaware) picked up a fall over Bo Bauer in 1:38 at 174 pounds. The victory was the fifth-straight for Voss, as he improved to 23-2 on the year. At 184 pounds, Taylor Mehmen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) improved to 20-5 on the year with a win by forfeit. Augustana won the final two matches, leaving Coe with a 33-10 victory.
Coe returns to action on Saturday, as the Kohawks travel to the Matman Invite, hosted by Cornell College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in Mount Vernon. A link to live video and results is available at CoeAthletics.com.
