DECORAH, Iowa - The Coe College swimming and diving teams turned in two top-seven times in school history on Saturday, as the Kohawks competed at the Norse Sprint Invite.
In the women's 200-yard medley relay, Coe's team of Kendall Bundy (Denver, Colo./South), Katie Freeland (Dysart, Iowa/Union), Sam Fitzgerald (Springville, Iowa/Springville) and Katy Appler (Clermont, Iowa/Valley) finished third in 1:58.41. On the men's side, Coe's team of Doug Sauer, Collin Flynn (Racine, Wis./Walden III), Andy Cheng (Corpus Christi, Texas/W.B. Ray) and Quincy Markham (Sioux City, Iowa/Bishop Heelan ) was fourth in 1:44.92. Katie King (Dysart, Iowa/Union) won the women's 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:30.01. Blake Sterns (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) was second for the men in 10:28.66, finishing with the seventh-best time in school history and the ninth best time in the Liberal Arts this year.
Appler was eighth in the women's 200-yard freestyle in 2:09.06, while three Kohawks finished in the top 10 on the men's side. Corbin Faidley (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/Hoover) was fifth in 1:49.51, while Markham was eighth in 1:54.68. Phil Cunningham was 10th in 1:56.25. Bundy won the women's 50-yard backstroke in 29.06, while Alanna Thompson (Waterloo, Iowa/ West) was fifth in 31.01. Sauer was second on the men's side in 26.28. Fitzgerald and Freeland were second and third in the women's 50-yard breaststroke, finishing in 32.25 and 33.33 respectively.
Cheng was second in the men's 100-yard butterfly in 56.19. Thompson was eighth in the women's 50-yard freestyle in 26.94, while Josh Seymour was 10th on the men's side in 23.96. Freeland was 10th in the 100-yard freestyle in 58.75, while Flynn and Markham were seventh and eighth on the men's side. Flynn finished in 51.01, while Markham touched in 51.67.
Thompson was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:07.09. On the men's side, Sauer tied for the sixth-best time in school history with his second place finish in 57.05. Christian Chiffy (Aiea, Hawaii/Huntingtown) was seventh in 1:00.84. Nathan Dvorak (Clutier, Iowa/Union) was fifth in the men's 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.37. Faidley was second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.35, while Cunningham was fourth in 5:15.29.
Bundy was third in the women's 50-yard butterfly in 28.24, while Fitzgerald was 10th in 29.52. On the men's side, Conor Backhaus (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) and Nathan Homan (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson ) tied for seventh in 25.77. Bundy and Fitzgerald were third and fourth in the 100-yard IM, finishing in 1:04.42 and 1:05.01 respectively. On the men's side, Sauer was ninth in 58.27. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Coe's team of Brandi Peter (Dubuque, Iowa/ Senior), King, Thompson and Freeland finished fifth in 1:48.15. On the men's side, Seymour, Tim Bosn (Omaha, Neb./Roncalli Catholic), Faidley and Flynn finished fourth in 1:35.28.
