DECORAH, Iowa - The 13th-ranked Coe College wrestling team cruised to three dual victories on Saturday, while dropping a dual on criteria at the Iowa Conference duals.
Coe opened the day with a 35-13 victory over Simpson. It was the 13th-straight win over the Storm. Brady Wilsie (Byron, Ill./Byron) improved to 16-2 on the year, as he opened the dual with a fall in 1:09 against Jacob Irwin at 125 pounds. Fletcher Green (Washington, Iowa/Washington) won by forfeit at 133 pounds. At 149 pounds, Romello Hidalgo-Monjaras (Concord, Calif./College Park) pushed Coe's lead to 18-6 with a fall over Anthony Derrick in 1:25. Ryan Harrington (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) was a 5-2 winner over Jake Mize at 165 pounds, while Jake Voss (Ryan, Iowa/West Delaware) won by fall in 2:35 against RJ Brown at 174 pounds. Taylor Mehmen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) earned a 15-10 decision against Noah Robinson at 184 pounds. Andrew Holladay (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) picked up Coe's final win at 197 pounds, as he won by 15-0 technical fall in 3:10 for his 50th career victory.
In the second dual of the day, Coe beat Luther 35-12. Jan Rosenberg (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) opened the dual with a 13-6 win over Connor Murphy at 125 pounds. Green picked up a 15-0 technical fall at 133 pounds against Cody Hanson before Levi Azinger (Pella, Iowa/Pella) won by fall in 2:02 against Gilbert Valadez at 141 pounds. Hidalgo-Monjaras also won by fall at 149 pounds, beating Travis Ostby in 2:53. At 157 pounds, Cody Fritz (Solon, Iowa/Solon) beat Michael Suarez by 6-3 decision. Harrington won by major decision 10-0 against Brett Clark at 165 pounds, while Voss picked up a 16-0 technical fall in 5:32 against Javier Reyes at 174 pounds. Holladay earned Coe's final win at 197 pounds, beating Matthew Chlebek 8-2.
The lone loss of the day for the Kohawks came in the third dual, as Loras beat Coe 21-20. It was the first victory against the Kohawks since 2005 for Loras. The Duhawks won on the second criteria of most falls. Coe took an early 4-0 lead on a 15-7 major decision from Rosenberg against Matt Randone. With Coe trailing 6-4, Azinger won his 40th career match with a 15-0 technical fall against Joseph Riordan. Hidalgo-Monjaras was a 12-9 winner over Rose Lembeck at 149 pounds. Harrington earned a 16-0 technical fall in 4:26 at 165 pounds against Lucas Sedlacek. The final Kohawk victory came at 174 pounds, as Voss beat Eddie Smith 7-3.
Coe put together one of the most dominating performances in school history against Nebraska Wesleyan in the finale. The Kohawks won six matches by fall and earned bonus points in all but one in the 53-0 win over the Prairie Wolves. Rosenberg opened the dual with his 70th career win, as he improved to 17-6 on the year with a fall in 3:38 against Ryan Smales at 125 pounds. Green beat Jorge Hernandez by fall in 1:03 at 133 pounds before Sam Uthoff (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) won by fall in :48 against Brayden Dowding at 141 pounds. Cole Erickson (Mediapolis, Iowa/Mediapolis) beat Mitchell Hunt by fall in :56 at 149 pounds before Fritz won by forfeit at 157 pounds.
Harrington earned his 60th career victory at 165 pounds, beating Nathan Hunt by 12-3 major decision. Voss also earned a major decision, winning his ninth-straight match with a 12-3 win over Braxton Coleman. Voss improved to 27-2 on the year with the win. Mehmen improved to 22-7 on the year with a fall in 1:29 against Sam Simpson at 184 pounds. Holladay improved to 21-9 on the year with a 4-3 decision at 197 pounds against Ben Lodema. The final win was at heavyweight, as Garrett Kelson (Danvers, Ill./Olympia) won by fall in 4:43 against Justin Hennessy.
The Kohawks return to action on Friday, as they travel to top-ranked Wartburg. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Waverly.
