MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - For the second-straight week, senior Cassie Hocker (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison) has broken a school record. Hocker broke the 60-meter dash record Saturday at the Cornell Invite.
The Kohawk men started the day with a second place finish in the 4x200-meter relay. Coe's team of Nathan Suell (Fredericksburg, Iowa/Turkey Valley), Clayton Birkes (Columbia, Mo./Southern Boone Country R-I), Demetrius Harper (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) and Anton Jones (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) finished in 1:33.87, the second best time in the IIAC this year. In the women's mile run, Josephine Bautch (Reedsburg, Wisconsin/Reedsburg) was fourth in 5:46.49. On the men's side, Derek Dinderman (Palo, Iowa/Vinton-Shellsburg) was second in 4:36.06, the fifth best time in the league this year. Chris Hawkins (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.37, the 13th best time in the nation and second-best in the IIAC.
Hocker won the 60-meter dash in 7.77, breaking Stefani Wright's school record of 7.90 set in 2013. Her time is currently the top time in the nation. Last week, Hocker broke the 55-meter dash record at the Sol Butler Classic. Carlyn Cole (Baldwin City, Kansas/Baldwin) was fourth in the 60-meter dash in 8.15. Amanda Brummet (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) won the women's 400-meter dash in 1:01.55, the fourth best time in the IIAC. Kelsie Coates (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) was third in 1:06.79. On the men's side, Hunter Hartshorne (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Comprehensive) was fifth in 54.84.
Beau Freeborn (New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska) was third in the 800-meter run in 2:02.29, the fourth best time in the IIAC. Cole was fourth in the women's 200-meter dash in 27.72, while Suell was fifth on the men's side in 23.58. Tieranny Keahna (Tama, Iowa/South Tama) was fifth in the weight throw at 45' 1 1/2" (13.75m), the fourth best throw in the Iowa Conference. On the men's side, Robbie Peters (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon) was second at 52' 7 1/4" (16.03m) and Jacob Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) was third at 52' (15.85m). Peters has the fourth best throw in the IIAC and 40th in the nation, while Hayes' toss is the 47th best in the country.
Christina Brown (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) was second in the pole vault at 10' 2" (3.10m), the fifth best in the Iowa Conference. Keahna was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 36' 9 1/2" (11.21m). Hayes was second in the shot put at 44' 2 3/4" (13.48m), while Peters was third at 42' 6 1/4" (12.96m).
The Kohawks finished fourth on both sides. The women had 61 points, while the men had 76. The Cornell women won the meet with 135 points, while Graceland won on the men's side with 115 points. The Kohawks return to action on Saturday, as they travel to the Wisconsin-Platteville Invite. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in Platteville, Wis.
