DECORAH, Iowa - The Coe College swimming and diving teams closed the 2017 dual meet portion of the schedule on Saturday with a non-scored meet against Luther.
The two teams decided to not score the meet and hold some mixed events to the duals. The meet started with the mixed 200-yard medley relay. Coe took the top two spots, as Doug Sauer, Sam Fitzgerald (Springville, Iowa/Springville), Katie Freeland (Dysart, Iowa/Union) and Quincy Markham (Sioux City, Iowa/Bishop Heelan ) won in 1:49.19. The Kohawk team of Kendall Bundy (Denver, Colo./South), Tucker Dangremond (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy), Andy Cheng (Corpus Christi, Texas/W.B. Ray) and Katy Appler (Clermont, Iowa/Valley) was second in 1:49.42. In the mixed 800-yard freestyle, Eric Ford (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington ) was third in 8:58.98.
Bundy won the 150-yard freestyle in 1:30.98, while Katie King (Dysart, Iowa/Union) was third in 1:33.30. On the men's side, Corbin Faidley (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/Hoover) was second in 1:20.10, while Cheng was fourth in 1:23.92. Fitzgerald won the women's 50-yard freestyle in 26.00, while Sauer was fifth on the men's side in 23.67. Freeland won the women's 100-yard IM in 1:04.90, the third best time in Liberal Arts. Appler was third in 1:10.05, while Brandi Peter (Dubuque, Iowa/ Senior) was fourth in 1:10.84. Collin Flynn (Racine, Wis./Walden III) was third on the men's side in 57.55, while Dangremond was fifth in 1:00.01.
On the women's three-meter diving board, Erin Horton (San Diego, Calif./Mt.Carmel ) was third with 163.5 points. Monica Douglas was fourth with 143.6 points and Hadley Copeland (Elgin, III./Elgin) coming in fifth with 118.25 points. Andrew Koehler (Bel Aire, Kan./Wichita) won the men's event with 135.2 points. Freeland won the women's 50-yard butterfly in 27.99, the second best time in the Liberal Arts this year. Peter was fourth in 30.29, while Eleanor Peach (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J Andrew) was fifth in 31.92. On the men's side, Nathan Homan (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson ) was second in 25.66, the fourth best time in the Liberal Arts this year. Cheng was third in 25.82, while Joshua Seymour (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic ) was fifth in 26.31.
King was second in the women's 100-yard freestyle in 59.83, while Sauer was third on the men's side in 52.63. Tim Bosn (Omaha, Neb./Roncalli Catholic) was fourth for the Kohawk men in 52.92. Fitzgerald and Hannah Creamer (Fruitland, Iowa/Louisa-Muscatine) were fourth and fifth in the women's 50-yard backstroke, as Fitzgerald finished in 31.80 and Creamer in 42.15. Flynn was second on on the men's side in 27.26. Christian Chiffy (Aiea, Hawaii/Huntingtown) was fourth in 28.85, while Phil Cunningham was fifth in 29.03. Alanna Thompson (Waterloo, Iowa/ West) was third in the women's 400-yard freestyle in 4:37.57. On the men's side, Blake Sterns (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) was second in 4:02.64, while Conor Backhaus (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) was fifth in 4:13.18.
Horton was third on the three-meter diving board with a score of 157.8. Copeland was fourth with 134.75 points, while Gisel Bahena (Chicago, III./Lindbloom M&S Academy ) was fifth with 124.95 points. Appler won the 50-yard breaststroke in 35.28, the third best time in Liberal Arts this year. Bundy was second in 35.42, the fifth best time in Liberal Arts this year. On the men's side, Dangremond won in 28.60, the third best time in Liberal Arts this year. Coe closed the meet with a second-place finish in the mixed 200-yard freestyle relay, as the Kohawk team of Flynn, Thompson, Peter and Bosn finished in 1:39.33.
The Kohawks return to action Feb. 8-11 at the Liberal Arts Championships in Elsah, Ill.
