PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The Coe College track and field teams returned to action on Saturday at the Wisconsin-Platteville Select Invite, where they put together three top 55 events in the country.
Amanda Brummet (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) was sixth in the women's 200-meter dash in 27.06. Brummet was fourth in the 400-meter dash 1:00.54, the fourth best time in the Iowa Conference this year. Carlyn Cole (Baldwin City, Kansas/Baldwin) was eighth in the event in 1:02.00. Three Kohawks finished in the top 10 in the 3,000-meter run, highlighted by Mareena Franke (Neenah, Wis./Neenah)'s fourth-place finish in 11:20.92. Katalina Stai (Winona, Minn./Winona) was sixth in 11:37.01, while McKayla Morris (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) was 10th in 11:57.43. Tieranny Keahna was eighth in the shot put with a toss of 37' 5" (11.40m).
On the men's side, Clevon Catchings (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Bulls Prep) was fourth in the 60-meter dash in 7.24 and eighth in the 200-meter dash in 23.47. A trio of Kohawks finished in the top-10 in the 400-meter dash, led by Erik Franklin (Greeley, Colo./West)'s fifth-place finish in 50.84. His time ranks 52nd in the nation and third in the Iowa Conference. Nathan Suell (Fredericksburg, Iowa/Turkey Valley) was eighth in 51.46, while Clayton Birkes (Columbia, Mo./Southern Boone Country R-I) was 10th in 53.74. Beau Freeborn (New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska) was sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:01.79. In the mile run, Ben Nelson was seventh in 4:42.59, while Ryan Izer (Lawler, Iowa/Turkey Valley) was 10th in 4:48.40. Derek Dinderman (Palo, Iowa/Vinton-Shellsburg) was sixth in the 3,000-meter run in 8:59.43. Chris Hawkins (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.37. Coe's 4x200-meter relay team of Birkes, Suell, Anton Jones (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) and Beau Freeborn finished second in 3:31.66.
Hawkins won the long jump at 23' 5 1/2" (7.15m). It is currently the best jump in the Iowa Conference and eighth best in the nation. Jacob Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) was 10th in the shot put at 44' 1 1/2" (13.45m). Hayes was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 53' 2 3/4" (16.22m), the fourth best throw in the IIAC and 40th best in the nation. Robbie Peters (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon) was sixth with a throw of 51' 11 3/4" (15.84m).
The Kohawks return to action on Saturday, as they travel to the Grinnell Invite. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. in Grinnell.
