CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The 21st-ranked Coe College wrestling team won seven matches Thursday, including four with bonus points, in a 32-12 win over Dubuque at Eby Fieldhouse.
The dual started at 165 pounds, where Ryan Harrington (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) used a takedown and reversal in the first period en route to an 8-3 win over Patrick Mooney. At 174 pounds, 10th ranked Jake Voss (Ryan, Iowa/West Delaware) put Ted Cappararino on his back in the first period and won by fall in 1:02. Voss improved to 28-4 on the year as he picked up his 40th career victory. At 184 pounds, Dubuque's Ethan Cain outlasted Taylor Mehmen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) for a 15-14 victory, cutting the Kohawk lead to 9-3.
Andrew Holladay (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) started a string of four-straight Kohawk victories at 197 pounds. Holladay recorded a takedown and two nearfall points in the first period before posting seven points in the second period. Holladay won by technical fall over Raven Rodriquez 16-0 in 5:55, as he improved to 22-11 on the year. At heavyweight, Garrett Kelson (Danvers, Ill./Olympia) outlasted Jordan Hill in sudden victory for a 4-3 win. Eighth-ranked Jan Rosenberg (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) made the most of his final match at Eby Fieldhouse, winning by fall in :25 against Javier Guillen to give Coe a 23-3 lead after 125 pounds. The win was the ninth-straight for Rosenberg, as he improved to 20-6 on the year.
Fletcher Green (Washington, Iowa/Washington) pushed the Kohawk lead to 26-3 with a 9-4 win at 133 pounds. With the match tied entering the second period, Green twice tallied a two-point nearfall in the second period. Jeremy Melendez cut the Coe lead to 26-9 with a fall in 2:40 against Sam Uthoff (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) at 141 pounds. The Kohawks responded with their final victory, as Cole Erickson (Mediapolis, Iowa/Mediapolis) won by fall over Nicholas Meyer in 2:22 at 149 pounds. Dubuque's Quincy Kalkbrenner beat Cody Fritz (Solon, Iowa/Solon) 12-5 at 157 pounds in the final match.
Coe tallied five two-point nearfalls, a three-point nearfall and three four-point nearfalls. The Kohawks had a 13-7 advantage in takedowns and had five reversals.
The Kohawks return to action on Feb. 25 at the NCAA Central Regional. Loras College is hosting the regional at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque.
