DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College track and field teams broke a school record and won an Iowa Conference Championship on the opening day of the IIAC Track and Field Championships.
In the women's 55-meter dash, Cassie Hocker (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison) was second in the prelims in 7.24, breaking her own school record of 7.28. Christina Brown (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) was ninth in the pole vault with a height of 9' 2 1/2" (2.81m). Tieranny Keahna (Tama, Iowa/South Tama) was sixth in the shot put with a toss of 39' 8 1/2" (12.10m).
Chris Hawkins (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) was second in the 55-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 7.79. For the second-straight year, Hawkins won the long jump championship with a jump of 23' 9" (7.24m). Robbie Peters (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon) was eighth in the shot put at 46' 5 1/4" (14.15m).
After the first day, the Kohawk men are in seventh with 14 points. Dubuque has the lead with 51 points. On the women's side, Coe is ninth with five points. Nebraska Wesleyan has the lead on the women's side with 68 points.
