CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Senior Alex Bernt (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) has been named the Iowa Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Bernt went 3-0 on Saturday, as the Kohawks beat regionally-ranked Carthage and Loras. In his only singles match, Bernt beat Jason Derby of Loras 6-2, 6-1 at number one singles. In doubles play, Bernt teamed with Luke Ford (Otsego, Mich./Otsego) for a pair of victories. Playing number three against Carthage, the pair beat Fordy Leipold and Brandon Stassen 8-2. The pair moved up to number two doubles against Loras, beating Sean Baldwin and Riley Michel 8-3.
Ranked 48th in the nation and 13th in the central region, Bernt is 9-5 on the year in singles play. He also owns a 7-4 overall record in doubles. The Kohawks return to action on Sunday for a pair of matches in Orlando, Fla. Coe will play seven matches in the Orlando area over spring break.
