ORLANDO, Fla. - The Coe College women's tennis team opened the spring trip to Florida by splitting a pair of matches with John Carroll and Oglethorpe.
In the first match of the day, John Carroll came away with an 8-1 win. The lone victory for the Kohawks came at number two doubles, as Sarah Lasecki (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) and Haruki Omoto (Setagaya-ku, Japan/Waseda University) beat Katherine Devine and Jennifer Stroyne 8-4.
The Kohawks held a 2-1 lead after doubles play against Oglethorpe in the nightcap. At number one doubles, Lauren French (Raleigh, N.C./North Raleigh Christian) and Lasecki beat Hannah Dattilo and Caroline Johnson 9-7. The victory was the 70th career doubles win for Lasecki, as she became the sixth player in program history to hit the mark. Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) and Omoto followed with an 8-4 win at number two doubles against Halley Sickling and Shannon Cruz.
Resnick beat Johnson 6-4, 6-3 at number one singles, while French beat Dattilo 6-0, 6-4 at number two singles. With the match tied 4-4, Omoto beat Ingrid Wilcox 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 to clinch the match for the Kohawks.
The Kohawks (10-4) return to action on Tuesday, as they face Piedmont and Rhodes in the Orlando area.
