ALTAMONTE SPRINGS/ORLANDO, Fla. - The Coe College women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday, beating Piedmont 8-1 and Rhodes 6-3.
Coe led 2-1 after doubles play against Piedmont. Lauren French (Raleigh, N.C./North Raleigh Christian) and Sarah Lasecki (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) beat Amanda Blackwell and Morgan Buchholz 8-4. The other doubles win came at number two, as Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) and Haruki Omoto (Setagaya-ku, Japan/Waseda University) downed Karina Rivera and Durden Smith 8-1.
The Kohawks swept the six singles matches for the 8-1 win. Resnick beat Buchholz 7-6, 6-1 at number one singles, while French beat Blackwell 6-2, 6-0 at number two singles. Lasecki earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Simona Floyd at number three singles, while Kaitlin Fosler (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) beat Rivera 6-3, 6-1 at number four singles. The win was the 60th career victory for Fosler. Lakyn Boltz (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) beat Tatiana Burkett 6-0, 7-6 at number five singles, while Tori Montoya (Westminster, Colo./Holy Family) closed the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win over V. Zhurakovskaya at number six singles.
Coe again had 2-1 lead after doubles play against Rhodes. Resnick and French beat Anna Volkov and Caroline Doherty 8-5 at number one doubles, while Lasecki and Omoto downed Sara Lynn Abbott and Natalie Arnold 8-6 at number two doubles.
Resnick was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Doherty at number one singles, while French beat Volkov 6-0, 6-2 at number two singles. At number four singles, Fosler beat Abbott 6-2, 6-2, while Omoto picked up the final win at number five singles, beating Madeleine McDonald 6-3, 6-1.
The Kohawks (12-4) return to action on Thursday, as they close the spring trip with a match against Wheaton. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. central time at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
