NEW ORLEANS, La. - Three Coe College track and field athletes have been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Central Region team.
To be named all-region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team. The three Kohawks combined for six spots on the all-region team.
Junior Chris Hawkins (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) was honored in three different events, while he was also named the Central Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year. Hawkins finished the indoor season with the top distance in the region in the long jump (23' 11 1/2" - 7.3m) and triple jump (47' 1/4" - 14.33m), while also having the best 60-meter hurdles time in 8.35. He set the school record in the long jump. Hawkins won the Iowa Conference title in the long jump and triple jump.
Senior Erik Franklin (Greeley, Colo./West) earned all-region honors in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. His 200 time of 22.43 ranks fourth in the region, while his 400 time of 49.68 is the third best in the region. He tied the school record in the 200 this season. Franklin won the Iowa Conference title in both events.
Senior Cassie Hocker (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison) earned all-region honors in the 60-meter dash. Her time of 7.69 set the school record and was the best time in the region. Hocker won the Iowa Conference title in the 55-meter dash.
The Kohawks open the outdoor season April 1 at the Central Invite in Pella.
