CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe College Director of Athletics John Chandler has announced the hiring of Michael Prunty (Prun-Tee) as the new head coach of the Kohawk women's soccer program.
Prunty takes over for Scott Myers, who has been named the assistant coach at NCAA Division I Illinois State. A 2004 graduate of Simpson College, Prunty appeared in 66 games for the Storm with 48 starts. Prunty currently serves as the Iowa City City High Girls Soccer Head Coach, where he was named the Mississippi Valley Conference – Mississippi Division Coach of the Year in 2015. Prunty will continue to coach the Little Hawk girls this spring, as he enters his third season. Prunty also served as the Culver-Stockton College Head Men's Soccer coach in 2011 and 2012.
Along with various club teams, Prunty served as an assistant coach for the Simpson men and women during the 2010 season. Prior to returning to his alma mater, he was an assistant men's coach at St. Ambrose from 2008-2010. Prunty also worked at the Des Moines Menace Soccer Academy in 2010 and 2011.
"We are pleased to have someone with the background that Michael has leading our program," Chandler said. "Coach Myers helped return our program to the top of the Iowa Conference and we look for the same continued success under Coach Prunty."
Prunty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education from Simpson, where he graduated Cum Laude. He also has a Masters of Education in Teaching from St. Ambrose. Prunty also holds a Premier Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American.
