PEOSTA, Iowa - The Coe College men's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule on Sunday, as the Kohawks competed at the Loras Spring Invite.
Yudai Hirano (Japan) led the way for the Kohawks, as he sits in a tie for 35th after the first round with a 79. Hunter Livermore (Atkins, Iowa/Benton Community) is three strokes behind Hirano, as he is tied for 47th with an 82. Jake Van Oort (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) is tied for 49th with an 83, while Jason Gingrich (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) and Wade Hill (Monroe, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe) are tied for 52nd with an 84 each. Anthony Worden (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) rounded out the scoring for the Kohawks, as he is tied for 72nd with an 88.
The Kohawks are in 12th after the opening round with a 328, just three strokes behind Clarke for 11th and eight strokes behind Wartburg for ninth. Wisconsin-Stout has the team lead after the first round with a 298, holding a one-stroke lead over Loras. Luther's Joe Fewer is leading the individual race with a 71.
The final round begins at 9 a.m. Monday at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta.
