WAVERLY, Iowa - The Coe College men's golf team shot a season-low 310 in the first round of the Wartburg Spring Invite, as the Kohawks sit in fourth after the opening round.
Yudai Hirano (Japan) led the way for the Kohawks, as he shot a career-best 74. Tied for eighth after the opening round, Hirano's round is tied for the lowest round of the year by a Kohawk. Hunter Livermore (Atkins, Iowa/Benton Community) was just a stroke back, as he is tied for 13th after a first round 75. Livermore's round was the third best by a Kohawk this year.
Jason Gingrich (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) is tied for 33rd, as he shot an 80 in the opening round. Anthony Worden (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) shot a season-low 81, as he is tied for 36th. Wade Hill (Monroe, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe) and Jake Van Oort (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) both shot an 84, as they are tied for 51st.
Kirkwood is leading the team race with a 289 after the first round, holding a 15-stroke lead over Simpson. Coe is just two strokes behind Wisconsin-Stout, while holding a three-stroke lead over Carleton, St. Norbert and Wartburg. Kirkwood's JD Goodfellow leads the individual race, as he shot a 70 on Friday.
The final round begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Prairie Links in Waverly.
