INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Coe College men's golf team opened play at the Simpson Invite on Monday, as the Kohawks are in eighth after the opening round.
Jake Van Oort (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) and Yudai Hirano (Japan) led the way for the Kohawks, as they both shot a 79 to be tied for 28th. It was a career-low for Van Oort. Wade Hill (Monroe, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe) shot a season-low, as he is tied for 37th with an 80 in the opening round.
Jason Gingrich (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) and Anthony Worden (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) are tied for 41st after the first round, as they both shot an 81 on Monday. Hunter Livermore (Atkins, Iowa/Benton Community) rounded out the scoring for the Kohawks, as he is tied for 44th with a first round 83.
The Kohawks are in eighth after the first round, sitting with a 320. Simpson is 12 strokes ahead of the Kohawks for seventh. Josh Nunnally and Matt Unruh of Nebraska Wesleyan are tied for top individual honors with a 70. Nebraska Wesleyan leads the team race with a 292, holding a six-stroke lead over Grand View.
The final round begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Norwalk at The Legacy Golf Club.
