DUBUQUE/INDIANOLA, Iowa - The 36th-ranked Coe College men's tennis team split the squad on Thursday and posted a pair of 9-0 wins over Dubuque and Simpson.
In the first match of the day, Brady Anderson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) and James McManus (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) beat Matthew Sablay and Ranfer Hernandez 8-1 in the match with Dubuque at number one singles. Anderson improved to 20-6 in doubles with the win, as he also picked up his 70th career doubles win. At number two doubles, Alex Bernt (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) and Chad Moklestad (Boone, Iowa/Boone) beat Justin Castro and Jared Jhun 8-4. The final doubles win came at number three, as Tyrin Wages (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) and Ethan Dirksen (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) beat Jordan Hamling and Zebulon Hill 8-2. The win was the 40th total win of Wages career.
Anderson, ranked 32nd in the nation, improved to 23-4 in singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Castro at number one. McManus was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Sablay at number two singles, while Bernt, ranked 48th in the nation, beat Hernandez 6-2, 6-2 at number three singles. The win was the 80th singles win of his career, as he moved into a tie for eighth in school history. Moklestad won his ninth match in his last 10 outings with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jhun at number four singles, while Wages picked up his 20th career singles win with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Hamling at number five singles. Coe's final win came at number six, as Dirksen beat Hill 6-2, 6-1.
In Indianola, Josh Pudlo (Lakewood, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) and Luke Ford (Otsego, Mich./Otsego) improved to 12-3 together in doubles, as they beat Adam Wieser and Geoff Converse 8-1 at number one doubles. Pudlo improved to 20-8 in doubles on the year with the win. At number two doubles, Nate Ackert (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) and Nate Greiner (Polk City, Iowa/North Polk) downed Zach Nelson and Brett Dewerff 8-0. Greiner improved to 22-4 in doubles, while Ackert is now 18-5 in doubles this season. The final doubles win came at number three, as Evgeny Pakhomenko (Moscow, Russia) and Tyler Nelson (Ankeny, Iowa/Centennial) beat Aaron Smith and Karson Richardson 8-1.
Ackert beat Wieser 6-0, 6-1 at number one singles, while Pudlo downed Nelson 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles. Ford won his ninth match in his last 10 outings, as he picked up his 30th total win of the year with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Converse at number three singles. Pakhomenko won his ninth-straight match at number four singles, as he beat Dewerff 6-0, 6-0. Greiner won his 11th-straight match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Smith at number five singles, while Nelson closed the meet with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Gabe Dubberke.
The Kohawks won their 10th-straight match, while running their streak of regular season wins over Iowa Conference schools to 35-straight. The 36th-ranked Kohawks (22-4, 7-0 IIAC) will play for the Iowa Conference regular season title on April 22 when they welcome Luther (15-4, 5-0 IIAC). The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Clark Racquet Center.
