GALENA, Ill. - The Coe College men's golf team shot a 317 on Tuesday, as the Kohawks tied for fifth at the Loras Invite at Eagle Ridge Golf Course.
Yudai Hirano (Japan) led the way for the Kohawks, as he tied for first before falling on the first playoff hole. Hirano shot a career-low 73, as he tied with Mount Mercy's Philip Nelson and Central's Drew Mendoza. Nelson won the first playoff hole. Hirano was one-over par, the best score by a Kohawk this season. It was the first top-five finish of the year for Hirano, while it was his third top-10 finish.
Jason Gingrich (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) and Hunter Livermore (Atkins, Iowa/Benton Community) both tied for 26th, as they each shot an 80. Anthony Worden (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) tied for 42nd, as he shot an 84. Wade Hill (Monroe, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe) rounded out the scoring for the Kohawks, as he finished 59th with a 92.
Coe's 317 was the third-lowest score of the year for the Kohawks. The Kohawks tied with Clarke, while being just four strokes behind Loras for fourth. Illinois Central won the team title with a 307.
The Kohawks return to action on Saturday, as they face Luther in a dual in Iowa City at Finkbine Golf Course.
