CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College track and field teams won 12 titles at the Rittgers Invite, which returned to Clark Track & Field for the first time since 2006 Saturday.
Cassie Hocker (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison) won the 100-meter dash in 12.22, setting the track record with the top time in the Iowa Conference and 27th best time in the nation. Carlyn Cole (Baldwin City, Kansas/Baldwin) finished third in the event in 13.01. Amanda Brummet (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) won the 200-meter dash in 26.27, while she also finished second in the 400-meter dash in 59.68. Josephine Bautch (Reedsburg, Wisconsin/Reedsburg) was third in the 800-meter run in 2:28.28, while Katie Guinane (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) was fourth in 2:33.49. Guinane also finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:11.96. Katalina Stai (Winona, Minn./Winona) won the 5,000-meter run in 19:54.69, setting the track record. McKayla Morris (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) was second in the 5,000-meter run in 20:34.26. Kelsie Coates (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.14. On Friday night, Mareena Franke (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) finished 10th in the 10,000-meter run at the Augustana Viking Invite in 39:54.24.
Christina Brown (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) won the pole vault at 9' 8" (2.95m). Tieranny Keahna (Tama, Iowa/South Tama) was third in the shot put at 38' 7 3/4" (11.78m), while she finished fourth in the discus at 118' 4" (36.06m). Kassandra Bain (Kingsley, Iowa/Woodbury Central) was third in the javelin throw at 87' 5" (26.64m).
Clevon Catchings (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Bulls Prep) was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.29. Erik Franklin (Greeley, Colo./West) won the 200 and 400-meter dashes, setting the facility record in both events. He won the 200 in 21.87, the second best time in the IIAC and 34th best in the nation. His 400-meter dash time of 48.55 ranks second in the league and 48th in the nation. Catchings was second in the 200-meter dash in 22.62. Nathan Suell (Fredericksburg, Iowa/Turkey Valley) was second in the 400-meter dash in 49.68, while Hunter Hartshorne (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Comprehensive) was third in 50.74. Beau Freeborn (New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska) won the 800-meter run, breaking the track record with the fourth best time in the IIAC at 1:54.89. Ben Nelson was third in the 1,500-meter run in 4:08.69, while Derek Dinderman (Palo, Iowa/Vinton-Shellsburg) was fifth at 4:09.67.
Sezar Carillo (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) was second in the 5,000-meter run in 16:54.15. Chris Hawkins (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.31. Coe's 4x100-meter relay team of Lotu Ahomana (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar), Robbie Peters (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon), Alex Freiburger and Jacob Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) finished fourth in 49.89. In the 4x400-meter relay, Coe's team of Hartshorne, Anton Jones (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville), Suell and Freeborn won in a track-record 3:24.42. Coe's team of Max Johnson, Landon Kraus (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Senior), Gabe Varney and Ryan Izer (Lawler, Iowa/Turkey Valley) finished fifth in 3:31.88.
Hawkins won the long jump at 22' 7 1/4" (6.89m), while CJ Nelson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) was fourth at 19' 4" (5.89m). Nelson was also fifth in the triple jump at 37' 1 3/4" (11.32m). Hayes was second in the shot put at 43' 1" (13.13m), while Peters was third at 42' 11 1/2" (13.09m). Peters won the discus with a toss of 139' 2" (42.41m), while Hayes was second at 138' 11" (42.35m) and Josh Seymour (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) was fourth at 126' 10" (38.65m). Peters also won the hammer with a toss of 163' 9" (49.92m), while Hayes was third at 152' 2" (46.39m).
Coe was second on the men's side with 183 points, while the Kohawk women were fourth with 108 points. Wartburg won the team title on both sides, as the men finished with 274 points and the women finishing with 251 points.
