CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For the sixth-straight year, and 12th time in school history, the Coe College men's tennis team is the Iowa Conference Champion.
The Kohawks won their title Saturday, as they beat Luther 6-3. The win was the 36th-straight Iowa Conference regular season win for the Kohawks, while it was also their 11th-straight win this year. It was an early birthday gift for Coe Head Coach Eric Rodgers, who coached his 700th men's tennis match at Coe on Saturday.
At number two doubles, Brady Anderson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) and Nate Greiner (Polk City, Iowa/North Polk) beat Anders Jensen and Nate Parsons 8-3. Coe's other doubles win came at number three, as James McManus (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) and Nate Ackert (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) beat Kenny Goins and Jake Smith 8-2.
Anderson, ranked 32nd in the nation, beat Kyle Appel 6-4, 6-4 at number one singles. At number three singles, McManus beat Parsons 6-1,6 -1, while Josh Pudlo (Lakewood, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) downed Jensen 6-3, 6-4 at number four singles. Alex Bernt (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus), ranked 48th in the nation, earned the final win of the day for the Kohawks, as he beat Brian Murman 6-3, 6-3 at number five singles.
The 38th-ranked Kohawks (23-4, 8-0 IIAC) return to action April 30 at 40th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater (12-11). The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in Whitewater, Wis.
