DES MOINES/INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Coe College track and field teams competed at the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Invite on Thursday and Friday.
At the Drake Relays, Coe's 4x100-meter men's relay team of Anton Jones (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville), Chris Hawkins (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius), Clevon Catchings (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Bulls Prep) and Erik Franklin (Greeley, Colo./West) finished 20th in 43.46. On the women's side, Coe's team of Carlyn Cole (Baldwin City, Kansas/Baldwin), Kyna Smith (Baldwin City, Kan./Baldwin), Amanda Brummet (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) and Cassie Hocker (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison) finished 24th in 49.61. The Kohawk men finished 19th in the 4x200-meter relay, as Jones, Hawkins, Clayton Birkes (Columbia, Mo./Southern Boone Country R-I) and Nathan Suell (Fredericksburg, Iowa/Turkey Valley) finished in 1:31.97. In the 1600 Sprint Medley, the Kohawks finished fifth on the men's side. Catchings, Suell, Franklin and Beau Freeborn (New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska) finished in 3:28.49. On the women's side, Coe was 17th as Smith, Cole, Brummet and Josephine Bautch (Reedsburg, Wisconsin/Reedsburg) finished in 4:19.08.
Derek Dinderman (Palo, Iowa/Vinton-Shellsburg) finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Kip Janvrin Invite in 10:10.19, while Nick Poff (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) was 18th in 10:45.44. Robbie Peters (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon) was seventh in the discus throw at 148' 7" (45.28m), the fourth best throw in the Iowa Conference this year. Jacob Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) finished 11th at 133' 11" (40.81m). Hayes was ninth in the hammer throw at 164' 2" (50.05m), the fifth best throw in the Iowa Conference this year. Peters was 11th at 162' 4" (49.49m).
The Kohawks return to action May 5 at the Loras Invite in Dubuque.
