INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Coe College men's golf team moved up to sixth after the second round of the Iowa Conference Championships on Friday, while cutting 17 strokes off its first round score in the process.
Hunter Livermore (Atkins, Iowa/Benton Community) and Anthony Worden (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) both shot a 78 on Friday to lead the Kohawks. Livermore trimmed three strokes off his first round score, as he is tied for eighth with a 159 after the two rounds. Worden cut six strokes off his first round score and sits in a tie for 14th with a 162. The top 10 players earn All-Iowa Conference honors.
Yudai Hirano (Japan) cut seven strokes off his first round score, as he is tied for 21st with a 165 after the first two rounds with a 79 on Friday. Jason Gingrich (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) trimmed a stroke off his first round score, as his 85 Friday put him in a tie for 32nd with a 171 after the first two rounds. Jake Van Oort (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) shot a 92 for the second-straight round, as he is in 40th with a 184.
Coe is sixth in the team standings with a 657. The Kohawks are six strokes behind Loras for fifth, while holding a 10-stroke lead over Wartburg for sixth. Luther has the team lead with a 627, just three strokes ahead of Nebraska Wesleyan. The Prairie Wolves' Matt Unruh is the clubhouse leader after two rounds with a 149 after his 72 on Friday.
The Kohawks begin the final round at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Indianola Country Club in Indianola. Originally scheduled for 72 holes, the tournament was shortened to 54 holes after Saturday's play was rained out last week. A link to live results is available at CoeAthletics.com.
