DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Coe College track and field teams combined to win three titles Friday night at the Dr. Tucker Open at Loras College.
Cassie Hocker (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison) opened the meet with a win in the 100-meter dash, as she clocked in at 12.22. In the 400-meter dash, Josephine Bautch (Reedsburg, Wisconsin/Reedsburg) was second in 60.89, while Rachel Kelly (Lone Tree, Colo./Rock Canyon) was fourth in 65.04. Coe's 4x100-meter relay team of Carlyn Cole (Baldwin City, Kansas/Baldwin), Kyna Smith (Baldwin City, Kan./Baldwin), Amanda Brummet (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) and Hocker finished third in 49.26, the fourth best time in the Iowa Conference this season. In the 4x400-meter relay, Brummet, Cole, Smith and Dana Koester (Wheatland, Iowa/Calamus-Wheatland) finished second in 4:03.65, also the fourth best relay time in the IIAC.
Christina Brown (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) was fifth in the pole vault at 10' 2" (3.10m). In the shot put, Tieranny Keahna was fourth at 38' (11.58m). Keahna also finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 116' 8" (35.57m).
Erik Franklin (Greeley, Colo./West) won the 200-meter dash in 22.06. Clayton Birkes (Columbia, Mo./Southern Boone Country R-I) finished fifth in the 400-meter dash in 50.85. Chris Hawkins (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) took third in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.93. His time is the fourth best in the Iowa Conference and 37th in the nation. In the 4x400-meter relay, Coe's team of Nathan Suell (Fredericksburg, Iowa/Turkey Valley), Franklin, Hunter Hartshorne (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Comprehensive) and Beau Freeborn (New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska) finished third in 3:17.54. The time ranks 24th in the nation and third in the Iowa Conference.
Hawkins won the long jump at 23' 8 3/4" (7.23m). Robbie Peters (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon) was third in the hammer throw at 164' 7" (50.17m).
The Kohawks return to action on Friday, as they open competition at the Iowa Conference Championships in Storm Lake. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
