INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Iowa Conference Champion Coe College men's tennis team is heading to St. Peter, Minn. for this weekend's NCAA Regional Championships.
The 35th-ranked Kohawks (25-5) will face Grinnell College (18-9) in the opening round. The two teams squared off earlier this season, with the Kohawks coming away with a 9-0 win. The winner of Friday's match will move on to face sixth-ranked Chicago. Coe lost a pair of duals against the Maroons to open the season. A time for the match has not been set.
Coe is ranked seventh in the ITA Central Region, while Grinnell is 20th. On the other side of the pod, Wisconsin-Whitewater (14-11) will face Concordia-Wisconsin (20-6) in the first round, with the winner facing 21st-ranked Gustavus (24-8). The two second round winners will meet on Sunday.
This will be the 13th appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Kohawks (1996, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016). Coe is 6-12 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Last year, the Kohawks had a first round bye before falling 5-2 to 18th-ranked Gustavus in the second round.
