INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After missing the tournament the last two seasons, the Coe College softball team is making a return to the big show for its 15th appearance in school history.
The 20th-ranked Kohawks will travel to familiar territory for the regional, as they head to Pella. It's not just the location that is familiar this year, as Coe has played all four teams in the Central Regional this season. Coe will open the tournament against Washington University in St. Louis on Friday. On the other half of the bracket, 10th-ranked Central will host 17th-ranked St. Thomas. The Kohawks lost to the Bears earlier this season in St. Louis, while they split a doubleheader with Central and beat St. Thomas in the first game of the season. The winner of this four-team region will face the winner of the Luther Region, which features third-ranked Luther, St. Catherine, St. Scholastica and Chicago, in a Super Regional.
This is the 15th overall appearance in the NCAA Regionals for Coe, and it is the 10th in the last 13 years. During that stretch, the Kohawks have won two regional championships, advancing to the NCAA College World Series in 2006 and 2009. Coe was the National Runner-Up in 2009. The Kohawks are 41-30 in their 14 previous appearances.
Coe will open the tournament at 1 p.m. on Friday. The Kohawks will play at least one game on Saturday depending on Friday's outcome. Game times, live video and live stats links will be available at CoeAthletics.com.
