IOWA CITY, Iowa - After a 39-3 defeat to NCAA Division I top-ranked Iowa in the morning session, Coe bounced back with two convincing wins over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (NCAA Division I) and North Carolina-Pembroke (NCAA Division II). In the two wins, Coe outscored its opponents 72-13.

Junior Clayton Rush (Aledo, Ill./Aledo) earned two wins, including a fall over Dustin Young of SIU-E in 2:08. Sophomore Jordan Westfall (RIverside, Iowa/Highland) was a 9-2 winner over Eric Biehl of SIU-E and a 7-1 winner over Dorian McDouglad UNC-P.

Senior Mark Carey (Raytown, Mo./South) improved to 3-1 on the year with a 17-7 major decision over Kyle Lowman of SIU-E and a 14-8 win over Brandon Bradley of UNC-P. Sophomore Dale Handley (Toddville, Iowa/Alburnett), the only Kohawk to win in the dual against Iowa, went 1-1 in the afternoon matches. He earned a 14-6 major decision over Gabe Ross of SIU-E before falling 12-9 to Rashaad Saunders of UNC-P.

Continuing his great start to the season, sophomore Nick LeClere (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) improved to 7-1 on the year with two bonus point wins. He beat Eric Pretto of SIU-E 19-7 for a major decision before pinning UNC-P's Derving Rios in 2:07. At 174 pounds, junior Seth Rehn (Oceanside, Calif./Vista) pinned Lenny Kuspa of SIU-E in 3:43.

184 pound senior Tyler Burke (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) also earned two bonus point wins for the Kohawks. He pinned Sawyer Smith of SIU-E in 1:42 before beating John Sturrock of UNC-P by technical fall (20-2) in 4:17. Continuing the domination at the heavier weights, senior Rob Kramer (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) pinned SIU-E's Robert Cooney in 1:36 and beat UNC-P's Shane Nolan 13-2 to earn two bonus point wins.

Senior Mitch Sander (Clarence, Iowa/North Cedar) closed both matches with more bonus point wins. He beat Chase Grafton of SIU-E 15-0 in 5:27 before getting a major decision over Erik Stancil of UNC-P by a score of 17-5.

The Kohawks will return to action on Saturday morning as they host the annual Coe Turkey Invite. Action starts at 9 a.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.
