CHICAGO, Ill. - The Coe College women's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to Augustana Friday morning in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
In doubles play, the Vikings picked up the first win at number three, as Zeana Badawi and Vicki Andonova downed Lakyn Boltz (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) and Ella White (Roseville, Minn./St. Anthony Village) 8-2. At number two doubles, Lauren Goggin and Madeline Lombardi beat Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) and Kaitlin Fosler (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) 8-2. The final doubles win came at number one, as Dana Goggin and Caitlyn Schaffer beat Lauren French (Raleigh, N.C./North Raleigh Christian) and Sarah Lasecki (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) 8-4.
Badawi beat Fosler 6-0, 6-2 at number four singles before Lombardi downed White 7-5, 6-2 at number six singles for the win.
The Kohawks return four of six players in the postseason varsity singles lineup after finishing 18-10 overall this season. The Kohawks will be without the services of graduating seniors Lasecki and Fosler. Lasecki finishes her career with 50 singles wins and 77 doubles wins, while Fosler ends her career with 32 singles wins and 37 doubles victories.
