SAINT PETER, Minn. - The 35th-ranked Coe College men's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to sixth-ranked Chicago Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Chicago recorded the first point, as Nicolas Chua and Charlie Pei beat Nate Ackert (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) and James McManus (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) 8-0 at number three doubles. The Kohawks evened the score at number one doubles, as Josh Pudlo (Lakewood, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) and Luke Ford (Otsego, Mich./Otsego) beat Erik Kerrigan and Ninan Kumar, ranked 15th in the nation, 8-5. The win improved the top Kohawk pair to 15-6 on the year. The final doubles point went to Chicago, as Tyler Raclin and Max Hawkins, ranked sixth in the nation, beat Brady Anderson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) and Nate Greiner (Polk City, Iowa/North Polk) 9-8.
Kerrigan picked up the first singles point for Chicago, as he beat Ackert 6-0, 6-0 at number two. At number five singles, Luke Tsai beat 48th-ranked Alex Bernt (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) 6-3, 6-1. The final point came from Kumar at number six singles, as he beat Greiner 6-1, 6-1.
The Kohawks (26-6) return a bulk of their lineup for next season, while they will be without the services of graduating seniors Bernt, McManus, Chad Moklestad (Boone, Iowa/Boone) and Tyrin Wages (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park).
