CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Six Coe College softball players were recently honored by the Iowa Conference. Coe had a first team selection, while four were named to the second team and one honorable mention pick.
Sophomore Haley Jones (Waterloo, Iowa/West) was named to the first team at second base, earning her first all-conference selection. Two seniors and two sophomores were on the second team, with three of them earning all-conference honors for the second time. Seniors Mallory McArtor (Riverside, Iowa/Mid-Prairie) and Maliah Fligg (Tiffin, Iowa/Clear Creek-Amana), along with sophomores Alyssa Olson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) and Allie O'Brien (Grimes, Iowa/Dallas Center-Grimes) were named to the second team. Sophomore Madi Miller (Coralville, Iowa/West) was an honorable mention selection.
Jones ranked fourth in the league with .460 batting average, while ranking second in the league with a .960 slugging percentage. Jones also ranked fourth in the league with 23 hits and fifth with 16 runs scored. Her 20 RBI were the third most in the league, while she was second in the league with seven home runs.
A first team selection last season, McArtor led the Iowa Conference with 13 stolen bases this season. McArtor ranked ninth in the league in RBI with 11 and fifth in the league with three home runs. She ranked ninth in the league in walks with six and seventh in the league with 53 at-bats. She hit .340 with a .585 slugging percentage.
Fligg was also a second-team selection last season. Fligg ranked seventh in the league with 50 innings pitched and fifth with 28 strikeouts. She ranked eighth in the league with a 2.66 ERA and eighth with a .262 batting average against. Fligg ranked fourth in league play with five wins. At the plate, Fligg hit .318 with 14 hits and a .455 slugging percentage.
Olson ranked sixth in the Iowa Conference with a 2.02 ERA and fourth with a .214 batting average against. She was one of two pitchers in the league with over 40 strikeouts, while ranking fourth with five victories. Olson gave up 34 hits and 13 earned runs in 45 innings. In seven games started, she went the distance in six of them.
A second-team selection for the second-straight year, O'Brien ranked second in the league with a .561 on-base percentage. She ranked 10th in the league with a .419 batting average and .628 slugging percentage. O'Brien ranked third in the league with 10 walks, while ranking second with four hit by pitch. O'Brien was one of two players to not commit an error on the year while having at least 100 chances in league play.
Miller ranked sixth in the league with five doubles on the year. Miller hit .354 with a .521 slugging percentage. Of her 17 hits in league play, six went for extra bases. She scored 11 runs, while having a .385 on-base percentage. Miller was 4-of-5 in stolen base attempts, while not committing an error in the outfield.
The Kohawks went 31-11 overall and 11-5 in the Iowa Conference. Coe advanced to the NCAA Pella Regional Championship game. The Kohawks five All-Iowa Conference selections were the second-most in the league behind league champion Luther's seven selections.
