CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College baseball team placed six players on the All-Iowa Conference Teams, tied for the most of any school in the league.
Sophomore Kevin DeLaney (Coralville, Iowa/West) was named to the first team. Seniors Thomas Schaedel (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep), Andrew Brierton (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) and Ben Jacobson (Ottosen, Iowa/Humboldt), along with sophomore Jacob Burns (Gilbert, Ariz./Campo Verde) and freshman Jack Greene (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) were named to the second team. DeLaney was a first team selection last year, while Brierton and Jacobson were both second-team selections last year as well.
DeLaney hit .327 in Iowa Conference play with eight doubles, three triples and a home run. He had 33 hits and scored 22 runs, while driving in 11 runs with a .495 slugging percentage. He was 7-of-9 in stolen base attempts. Delaney had four assists from his spot in center field. DeLaney ranked third in the league in runs scored and sixth in hits. He led the league in triples, while ranking fourth in stolen bases. DeLaney was selected as an outfielder.
Brierton led the Kohawks in league play with a .356 batting average with four doubles and three home runs. He drove in 15 runs, while scoring 15 runs on 32 hits. Brierton had a .500 slugging percentage and was a perfect 5-of-5 on stolen base attempts. He also had three assists from right field. Brierton ranked seventh in the IIAC in batting average and ninth in slugging percentage. His three home runs were tied for third in the league. Brierton was selected as an outfielder.
Burns had a team-high 20 RBI during league play, as he hit .344 with seven doubles. Burns scored 16 runs on 32 hits, while having a .419 slugging percentage. He was one of four players in the Iowa Conference to drive in 20 runs or more in league play. Burns was selected to the team as an outfielder.
Jacobson hit .286 on the year and was 1-2 on the mound with a 4.86 ERA. He had 18 hits, including five doubles, while driving in nine runs and scoring eight of his own. On the bump, Jacobson tossed 37 innings in six starts and one relief appearance. He struck out 26, while allowing 11 walks. Jacobson ranked third in the IIAC in batters struck out looking. Jacobson was selected as a utility player.
Greene was a perfect 3-0 on the mound in league play with a 1.99 ERA. He struck out 42, while walking 20 in 40.2 innings pitched. Greene started five games, while having a complete game and a shutout. Opponents hit just .173 off him. Greene ranked third in the league in strikeouts and third in batters struck out looking. He ranked eighth in the league in ERA, while leading the league in pickoffs. He was selected as a starting pitcher.
Schaedel was 3-2 on the mound with a 3.27 ERA. He started seven games on the bump, with one complete game in 44 innings of work. He struck out 34, while allowing 15 walks. Schaedel ranked 10th in the league in strikeouts, while ranking seventh in batters struck out looking. He ranked ninth in the league in wins and fifth in games started.
The Kohawks went 24-18 overall on the year and advanced to the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship game. Coe returns six starting position players and four pitchers that pitched double digit innings this year. Half of Coe's All-Iowa Conference selections will return.
