NEW ORLEANS, La. - Senior Cassie Hocker (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison) and junior Chris Hawkins (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) have been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Central Region team.
To be named all-region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team. The Kohawk pair earned four spots on the team. Hocker and Hawkins were both named to the all-region teams during the indoor season as well, where Hawkins was also named the Central Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year.
Hawkins was named to the team in three different events. He had the best long jump in the region at 24' 8 1/4" (7.52m). His jump ranked sixth in the nation, but an injury kept him from competing at the NCAA National Championships. He also broke the school record in the long jump this season. Hawkins also had the fourth best 110-meter hurdles time in the region at 14.93 and the third best triple jump at 47' 9" (14.55m). He ranked 43rd in the nation in the 110-meter hurdles and 25th in the nation in the triple jump.
Hocker earned all-region honors in the 100-meter dash. She set the school record at the IIAC Championships in 12.01, the best time in the region. Her time also ranked 17th in the nation, but an injury kept her from competing at the NCAA National Championships.
