CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College cross country teams opened the season Friday night at the Mount Mercy Mustang Gallop at Seminole Valley Park.
Mareena Franke (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) led the way for the Kohawk women, as she finished 10th in 16:02. Holly Wisnousky (Fairfax, Iowa/Prairie) was 45th in 17:24, while Meghan Brune (Swisher, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) was 48th in 17:32. Jean Springsteen (Lisbon, Iowa/Lisbon) finished 56th in 18:08, while Ella Gibbons (Altona, Ill./ROWVA) rounded out the scoring for the Kohawks with a 62nd place finish in 18:40.
On the men's side, Nathan Haerr (Fairfield, Iowa/Fairfield) led the Kohawks with a 10th place finish in 16:10. McCoy Meshach (Pacific, Mo./Pacific) was 18th in 16:41, while Ryan Izer (Lawler, Iowa/Turkey Valley) was 22nd in 17:08. Ben Nelson (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) finished 24th in 17:10, while Dray Schreiber (Buffalo City, Wis./Cochrane Fountain City) rounded out the scoring for the Kohawks in 17:41 with a 34th place finish.
The Kohawk women finished sixth with 161 points, while Cornell won with 41 points. On the men's side, Coe was third with 93 points. Cornell took home the men's title with 23 points.
Coe returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 9, as they travel to the Les Duke Invitational at Grinnell. The races will begin at 10 a.m. in Grinnell.
