CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe outscored Lawrence 34-22 in the second half, which paved the way for the Kohawks first win of the season.  The strong second half gave the Kohawks the 61-56 win over Head Coach Pat Juckem's alma mater.
Lawrence jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first 3:46 of the game, before increasing its lead to 11 with 9:26 to play in the opening half.  A 3-point basket by senior Cass Behrens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) with :01 remaining in the first half cut the Vikings lead to seven at the break.

Coe opened the first 3:37 of the second half on an 11-4 run to tie the game, with eight of those points coming from junior Dan Borngraeber (Brookfield, Wis./East).  The Vikings responded with a 6-0 run of their own, but it would be all Kohawks after that.

With 6:32 to play in the game, freshman David Mataloni (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) hit a 3-point basket to spark an 8-0 Kohawk run over the next 2:08, giving Coe its first lead of the game.  The Kohawks held a three-point lead with :04 remaining before Borngraeber hit two free throws to seal the win.

Borngraeber finished with a team-high 16 points, while junior Alex Tatman (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) added 15.  Tatman was 3-for-4 from 3-point range.  Mataloni and junior Fred Rose (Maywood, Ill./Walther Lutheran) each had six points, with Mataloni connecting on both of his 3-point attempts.

Behrens had a game-high nine rebounds, while freshman Seth Light (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle) had a team-high four assists.  Junior Dan Onorato (Naperville, Ill./Nequa Valley) had a game-high two blocked shots.

As a team, Coe held the Vikings to just 31 percent shooting in the second half, after they shot 52 percent in the first.  The Kohawks struggled from the charity stripe in the opening half, shooting just 38 percent, but answered with a perfect 8-of-8 from the line in the second half.

Coe (1-2) will take the road Tuesday night as they face Knox College (0-1).  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Galesburg, Ill.
