CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Kohawk volleyball team won a pair of matches Friday at the Mabel Lee Invite, as the Coe College volleyball team played the first athletic events in the brand new Kohawk Arena.
Despite the LumberJills scoring the first point in Kohawk Arena history, it was all Coe after that. The Kohawks swept Northland in the opener 25-5, 25-20, 25-10. Coe hit .478 in the first set, while adding 15 kills in the second set.
Lindsey Koch (Hudson, Iowa/Hudson) led the Kohawks with 12 kills, while Sarah Lehman (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) and Marley Patrick (Moline, Ill./Moline) had seven and six kills respectively. Aryn Meisinger (Gothenburg, Neb./Gothenburg) and Jaimee Rindy (Gypsum, Colo./Eagle Valley) each had five kills. Meisinger added 32 assists, while Madi Miller (Coralville, Iowa/West) had five. Coe had 14 service aces, led by five and four from Lehman and Koch. Ali Arns (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) had 11 digs, while Miller added eight. Rindy added three block assists, while Koch had a pair.
In the nightcap, St. Norbert rolled to a 25-16 win in the first set before the Kohawks took over. Coe won the second set 25-20 and the third 25-16, before holding on for a 25-23 win in the fourth set. The Kohawks hit .400 in the third set, while having 13 kills in both the third and fourth sets.
Koch and Lehman led the Kohawks with 14 kills apiece in the win over the Green Nights, while Rindy joined them in double figures with 10. Meisinger had 37 assists, while Rindy added three service aces. Miller had a match-high 16 digs, while Lehman and Koch had 14 and 12 respectively for double-doubles. Patrick had a pair of solo blocks, while Meisinger and Patrick each had three block assists.
The Kohawks return to action on Saturday, as they host the final day of the Mabel Lee Invite. Coe will face 12th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at 12 p.m. and Wisconsin-Platteville at 4 p.m.
