CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's tennis team dropped a tight 5-4 decision to Lake Forest Sunday in the home opener at the Clark Racquet Center.
The Foresters held a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The lone doubles win for the Kohawks came at number one, as Lauren French (Raleigh, N.C./North Raleigh Christian) and Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) beat Julie Lord and Leeza Bodnar 8-1.
In singles play, Coe's first win came at the top spot from French. The match went three sets, but French won 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. At number two singles, Resnick picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win over Allison Watts. The final singles win came at number six, as Ella white downed Sara Grosse 6-0, 6-1.
The Kohawks (0-2) return to action on Wednesday, as they travel to Cornell (2-3). The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Mount Vernon. A Bremner Cup point is on the line in the all-sports standings between the two schools, which Cornell currently leads 2-1 in the young season.
