GALESBURG, Ill. - Coe went on a 16-4 run with 9:06 to play in the first half and never trailed again as they held on for a 59-55 win over Knox College Tuesday night at Memorial Gym. The Kohawks have now won back-to-back games heading into Thanksgiving break.
The Kohawks consistently held a 9-13 point lead throughout the game before the Prairie Fire made a run at the end. With 6:14 to go, Coe went on a 9-3 run over the next 5:15, increasing its lead to 10 with just :59 to play in the game.
Knox got hot from 3-point range in the final minute, hitting three of their five for the game in that span. Coe went 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the win.
Junior
Alex Tatman (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) had a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds. Tatman was 7-of-12 from the field. Fellow junior
Dan Borngraeber (Brookfield, Wis./East) added seven points and six rebounds in the win.
Off the bench, freshman
Seth Light (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle) had eight points, while freshman
David Mataloni (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) had a game-high three assists. Junior
Dan Onorato (Naperville, Ill./Nequa Valley) had two steals.
As a team, the Kohawks shot 19-of-30 from the free throw line, while the Prairie Fire were 18-of-19. Coe held Knox to just 27 percent shooting, while hitting 41 percent of its own shots.
Coe returns to action Wednesday as they travel to defending Iowa Conference Tournament Champion Cornell. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
