ST. PETER, Minn. - Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) and Lauren French (Raleigh, N.C./North Raleigh Christian) advanced to the second day in both singles and doubles at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
Resnick, one of four players to earn a number five seed in singles, won her only singles match of the day to advance to the third round. Resnick beat Concordia's (Wisconsin) Bailey Kelly 6-0, 6-0. In the third round, Resnick will face Cornell's Raquel Ruiz. French, one of the eight number nine seeds in the singles bracket, advanced to the quarterfinals. In her first match, French beat Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Emily Cooper 6-2, 6-0. In the third round, French beat Grinnell's Anushka Joshi 6-0, 6-1. In the quarterfinals, French will face Carleton's Daniell Vasiliev, the number two seed in the tournament.
In doubles play, Resnick and French are the top seed. After a bye, Resnick and French beat Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Cooper and Molly Stewart 8-2. In the third round, the top Kohawk pair will face Wisconsin-Whitewater's Paige Nierman and Sabrina Palavra.
The second day of the ITA Midwest Regional gets underway at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter, Minn.
