CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College Men's Soccer team losses a hard-fought match to Nebraska Wesleyan in the final 10 minutes of the match on Tuesday night.
The rain-soaked turf and chilly Fall temperatures didn't seem to phase the Kohawks or the Prairie Wolves battled for 85 minutes without a goal from either side. With under 10 minutes to go in the 86th minute, Nebraska Wesleyan's Brady Blazek set up to take a corner kick which resulted in a goal off the head of Jake Kennedy for his ninth goal of the season. The Kohawks were unable to rebuttal, falling to the Prairie Wolves 1-0.
Nebraska Wesleyan outshot the Kohawks 20-5. Freshman Saleem Handal (Chattanooga, Tenn./Ooltewah) was the only Kohawk who recorded a shot on goal, while Luis Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill./Lincoln Park) recorded two shots and Keegan McIntosh (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) finished with one.
Zach Serovy (Iowa City, Iowa/West) was the starting keeper for Coe, recording three saves. Alec Balta (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) guarded the goal through the second period, totaling four saves and allowing his 10th goal of the season.
The Coe men travel to Buena Vista University Friday to take on the Beavers. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Storm Lake, pending on the women's match prior. A link to live video and stats will be available at CoeAthletics.com.
