LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Coe went 4-0 at Wartburg's Desert Duals Sunday, including a pair of convincing wins over top 15 teams in the country. Coe also earned big individual wins over a top-ranked wrestler and a defending national champion.
The Kohawks started the day with a 35-10 win over Embry-Riddle before they had their first match of the season against a ranked Division III opponent. The Kohawks defeated ninth-ranked North Central 30-7. Coe defeated Southern Maine 40-3 before closing the meet with a 34-9 win over 14th-ranked Elmhurst.
Junior
Clayton Rush (Aledo, Ill./Aledo) went 3-0 on the day with two major decisions and a fall. The fall came in 3:20 against Elmhurst's Jake Oster, the defending National Champion. Rush improved to 16-2 on the season. Also at 125 pounds, freshman
Nick Sand (Waterloo, Iowa/West) earned his first collegiate win, as he pinned Kyle Martin of Southern Main in 3:40.
Senior
Mark Carey (Raytown, Mo./South) ran his record to 15-2 on the year with a 3-1 record on the day. With two wins coming by major decision and the third by fall, Carey's only loss came to ninth-ranked Charlie Curran of Elmhurst. Sophomore
Dale Handley (Toddville, Iowa/Alburnett) was 3-0 on the day at 157 pounds, as he improved to 9-4 on the year.
The Kohawks were strong at the five upper weights all day, compiling a record of 19-1 from 165 pounds to heayweight. Sophomore
Nick LeClere (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) continued his climb through the ranks of division III with a 4-0 record, with three wins coming by major decision. His lone win not scoring bonus points was a 10-6 win over Mike Morin of Southern Maine, the top-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds in the nation. LeClere ran his record to 16-1 on the year.
Junior
Seth Rehn (Oceanside, Calif./Vista) went 3-1 on the day, with one win by fall at 174 pounds. Coe was a perfect 12-0 at the three top weights, with 11 of those wins earning bonus points for the Kohawks. At 184 pounds, senior
Tyler Burkle (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) was 4-0 with two technical falls and two falls, improving to 19-2 on the year.

Rob Kramer (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) was also 4-0 with his first win coming by forfeit. Kramer closed the day with back-to-back falls, putting him over 10 for the season. At heavyweight, senior

Mitch Sander (Clarence, Iowa/North Cedar) closed the duals with a 4-0 record. Carder earned his win by fall, while Sander had a major decision and two falls.
The Kohawks will return to action on Jan. 3, when they take part in Cornell's Matman Invite.
