PELLA, Iowa - Despite an early 16-0 run by the Central Dutch (2-12, 1-4 IIAC), the Coe Kohawks (9-5, 4-1 IIAC) rallied for a 69-63 road win. Coe held the Dutch to just five points in the final 4:01, with the five points coming in the final :54.
The Kohawks took a 7-2 lead in the first 2:19 of the game before the Dutch had their biggest run of the game. Following the 16 unanswered points for Central, Coe answered with a 10-4 run to cut the Dutch lead to five points with just under eight minutes to play in the opening half.
Central would extend its lead to 11 points twice in the remaining minutes of the half, but a jumper by junior
Sarah Anciaux (Iowa City, Iowa/City) with :22 left in the first half cut the Dutch lead to nine at the break.
Coe went on an 11-2 run in the first 2:50 of the second half to tie the game. With 11:50 to play, the Dutch scored six-straight points, which would prove to be their largest lead of the second half. Coe got its final field goal with 4:01 to play, but scored six points from the free throw line in the final :40 to seal the win, their fifth in a row.
Sophomore
Leslie Ware (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) led the Kohawks with 15 points, while hitting three 3-point baskets. Sophomore
Kayla Waskow (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) and junior
Devvin Rolston (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) joined Ware in double figures with 14 and 11 points respectively. Anciaux added nine points, while junior
Kaitlin Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) had seven.
Breitbach led the Kohawks with 10 rebounds and six assists, while Ware had six rebounds. Junior
Kayla Lincoln (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) was held to just five points, but dished four assists and recorded two steals. Rolston had a game-high four steals, while Breitbach had two.
Andrea Clark had a game-high 17 points for the Dutch.
Coe returns to action on Wednesday night, as they host Wartburg. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.
