PELLA, Iowa - The Coe men's basketball team was held to just seven points in the final 12:03, as Central (11-3, 4-1 IIAC) came away with a 62-50 win over the Kohawks (3-11, 1-4 IIAC).  The Dutch hit 53 percent of their shots in the second half, while Coe was held to 27 percent shooting.
Central scored the first eight points of the game, but back-to-back 3-point baskets by freshman David Mataloni (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) and sophomore Kevin Gaster (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) cut the lead to two.  Central scored the final bucket of the first half and the first six points of the second half, as they opened up a 39-28 lead, their largest of the game until the final basket.

With 16:04 to play, Coe went on a 15-1 run, sparked by seven points from freshman Seth Light (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle) and 3-point baskets from Mataloni and sophomore Jordan Cunningham (Mankato, Minn./East).  The run gave the Kohawks a 43-40 lead with 12:04 to play.

Central answered the Kohawk run in a big way, going on a 15-4 run that last until the final two minutes.  A 3-point basket by Mataloni with 2:01 to play would be the final points of the game for Coe, as Central scored the final seven points for the 62-50 win.

Mataloni led the Kohawks with 12 points.  Junior Alex Tatman (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt), Light and Gaster each added nine points.  Light had a game-high nine rebounds, while junior Joe Parys (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and Gaster had five apiece.  Light also had three steals.

Miguel Ley led all scorers with 14 points for the Dutch.

The Kohawks are scheduled to face Wartburg Wednesday night.  Tipoff is at 8 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.
